Configuring Tracing

Tracing enables identifying specific transactions that cause losses. It is used to reconcile the flow of products to and from an account, or to and from each location within an account.

Activating tracing causes additional fields to be updated when adding transactions. It does not create extra work for data-entry operators.

  1. Open Account Settings.
  2. Change Transaction tracing from '(None)' to:
    • 'Site' for precisely tracing every step from an inbound transfer through any internal location and ultimately to the corresponding outbound transfer.
    • 'Account' for tracing inbound transfers directly to outbound transfers.
    • 'Loan' for tracing loan sent transactions to loan received transactions, providing better control of loan balances.
  3. Tick Is carrier reference copied to sender/receiver reference? if using account tracing or site tracing.
  4. Define a Tracing start date to exclude tracing transactions prior to that date.
  5. For further instructions, see Tracing Transactions.

info

Tracing is ideally suited to carriers with full-pallet consignments. The consignment number is used to the link the transactions that comprise the trip, i.e. pickup through to delivery.

info

Tracing is more difficult to manage but still possible for 'parcel freight', with multiple consignments per pallet, and pallets are split up or consolidated over the course of a trip.
